Acclimatization Treks

Leaving Huaraz at 6am and 2 hours drive to the trailhead. The hike starts out flat then gradually changes to uphill hiking. This Laguna is unique in that the water seems to change color depending on the sun because of the unique algae growing in the lake.

Leaving Huaraz at 5am, 2 hours drive to the trailhead. Approximately 5 hours uphill hike with breaks to arrive at the last lake. During the 5 hours hike, there are 4 different beautiful lakes, one of which will be a lunch stop. 2.5 hours hiking downhill to reach the car. Ideal for those that are well acclimatized.

Laguna Paron is the biggest lake in the Cordillera Blanca. It is an easy day trip with sweeping vistas of the Cordillera Blanca. Many snowcapped peaks can be seen from this turquoise lake, including Artesonraju, the mountain made famous by the Paramount Pictures logo.
The viewpoint is a short 30 minute hike to overlook the lake and see many of the Cordillera Blanca’s most beautiful mountains. It is also possible to rent kayaks at the lake for 30 soles/ hour.

Leaving Huaraz at 9am, arrive to the walking path to the glacier after two short photo stops. The paved walkway to the glacier is a gradual uphill (100 meters up) walk that takes approximately 1 hour to walk. Enjoy approaching quite close to the glacier for some amazing photo opportunities.

Pickup is around 5AM at your hostel, you’ll get to the Laguna trail head around 9am after a stop for breakfast (Not included). The trail head starts at about 3900 meters and it takes about 3 hours to reach the Laguna 69 and 2 hours to return to the trail head where transport will await you.

Located 14km from Huaraz in the Cordillera Negra, this short hike is ideal for acclimatization and views of the Cordillera Blanca’s many peaks.

Leaving Huaraz at 7am, 1 hours driving to the town of Pitec at 3850 meters. The trailhead starts at Pitec and it takes 2.5 hours to reach the lake and 1.5 hours to return to Pitec.

On the way there you will stop at the old village of Yungay for a history of the 1970 earthquake. You will then drive to the laguna, arriving at the laguna in Huascaran national park, there will be time to enjoy the view of the laguna and boat on it. (5 soles). On the way back you will stop at for lunch.
