Trip Details

DAY 01: Huaraz to Llanganuco

On the first day we head out past the beautiful Llanganuco lakes and on to the trailhead where we load our donkeys and ascend to the Pisco base camp at 4,300 meters.

Today we climb from Pisco base camp to the Moraine camp (4,765 meters). This climb crosses a challenging rock glacier before climbing steeply into camp in a small sandy basin just below the glacier.

The third day will involve an early start at about 3-4am, to set out for the summit. We will arrive at the summit around 7-8am and discover the amazing natural wonder that is Pisco Mountain! After some time on the summit to enjoy the view, we will return to camp and continue down to the Base Camp.

This is where the expedition begins to Huascaran, base camp 4100 meters

From base camp we will ascend a rocky section to the moraine camp, at 4,850m. We will then continue, up the glacier, until reaching Camp 1 at 5,200m.

After our breakfast we will start climbing up toward the col. This involves passing a site which is notorious for avalanche risk. That night will be spent at the second Huascaran high camp, at c.5,900m

On the 7th day we will leave camp very early, around 2am. We will then start walking up on switchbacks, with some very steep sections. After 7 hours climbing we will reach the south summit at 6768m, from the summit we will have a breath-taking view to the cordillera Blanca. We descend on the same route, using rappels for the most difficult parts until we reach camp 2. There is the option the spend the night here or continue to descend to camp 1.

We descend by the same route from the Camp II or Camp I to the base camp, where we will rest.

From Base Camp we will descend to Musho where we will be met by our return bus to Huaraz
