Huascaran – 6 Days

Embark on a thrilling six-day mountaineering adventure to Huascarán, the highest peak in Peru and the entire Tropics, standing at 6,768 meters (22,205 feet). Located in the Cordillera Blanca range of the Andes, this expedition offers a challenging yet rewarding experience for seasoned climbers, combining breathtaking scenery, physical endurance, and technical climbing.

Trip Details

DAY 01: DAY 1: Huaraz at (3100m) – Mancos village at (2528m) – Musho village at (3005m) – Huascaran base camp at (4200m). (Driving time: 2 hours / walk time: 4 hours (walk up).

Departure from Huaraz will be at 7:00 am. We will take a transfer bus northwards to Mancos, and then follow a dirt road to the village of Musho (3,005m). In Musho we will meet the donkey drivers and donkeys, who will carry our climbing gear up to the Huascaran base camp at 4,200m.

On the second day we will have breakfast around 8.00am. Following his we will prepare our climbing gear and start the hike up to the moraine. When we reach the moraine camp, at 4,850m, we will have lunch and then relax for the afternoon.

The route offers amazing views of Huandoy Mountains, Huascaran, Chopicalqui, Chacraraju, Alpamayo, and Arteson. We will return back to the base camp by the same route to spend another night there.

After an early breakfast we will move on a rocky path until we reach the glacier edge. We will then traverse until reach the high camp at 5,350m.

After our breakfast we will start climbing up toward the col. This involves passing a site which is notorious for avalanche risk. That night will be spent at the second Huascaran high camp.

On the 5th day we will have breakfast very early, at 12:00 am. We will then start walking up on switchbacks, with some very steep sections. After 7 hours climbing we will reach the south summit at 6768m, from the summit we will have a breath-taking view to the cordillera Blanca. We descend on the same route, using rappels for the most difficult parts until, we reach our camp. Then we continue descending until the moraine camp site where we will spend the night.

After our breakfast at 8:00am we will pick up our climbing gear to take back to base camp. At base camp, the donkey driver will be waiting for us to load our climb gear, which they will carry until Musho village. From Musho, our private transport will take us back to Huaraz.
