Trip Details
DAY 01: HUARAZ 3100M – CASHAPAMPA 2900 M – LLAMACORRAL 3760M.
On the first day the private transfer will leave Huaraz after breakfast. It will take us north from Huaraz until we reach Cashapampa, arriving at around 10am. In Cashapampa we will meet a donkey driver who will carry our equipment to the first camp. After two hours of walking up, we will have lunch, then continue for another four or 5 hours until we reach the camp at Llamcorral (3,760m).
DAY 02: LLAMACORRAL – BASE CAMP ARHUAYCOCHA 4300m.
The second day will involve a hike along the valley, passing the beautiful turquoise lakes of Ichiccocha and Jatancocha. We will continue in the afternoon to the Alpamayo basecamp (4,300m) where there will be time to prepare and check our climbing gear for the following day.
DAY 03: BASE CAMP 4300M – MORAINE CAMP ALPAMAYO 4800M.
After breakfast we will complete the three hour hike from the base camp up to the moraine camp (4,800m). From here you will have spectacular views of the mountains of Artesonraju, Paria, Pucajirca and others. In the afternoon we will check the climbing equipment for the following day.
DAY 04: MORAINE CAMP ALPAMAYO- CAMP 1
On the fourth day we will ascend the glacier for around 4.5 hours. Alpayamo Camp 1 is located at 5,550m. Here we will have dinner in the late afternoon and rest in preparation for an early start the next day.
DAY 05: CAMP 1- SUMMIT ALPAMAYO 5947M – CAMP 1
Today the breakfast will be at 2 or 3:00am in the morning, and we will start climbing using head lamps. After c.1 hour walking in the snow we will get the base of the wall (Ferrari route). The gradient is approximate 75 degrees, and after 2 or 3 hours climbing we will reach the summit at 5,947m. We will have some time to enjoy the spectacular views from the top, before rappelling down the wall with the help of the guide. We aim to arrive back at the camp for 11 or 12 in time for lunch. We will spend that night again at Camp 1 (5,947m).
DAY 06: BASE CAMP ARHUAYCOCHA
After the breakfast in the camp, we will take the same route to go back to the Moraine Camp, then we will continue go down to the Base Camp, arriving to the Base Camp around 3:00pm. We will spend the night there, at 4300m.
DAY 07: BASE CAMP – CASHAPAMPA – HUARAZ
On the final day we will walk back downhill along the Santa Cruz valley, enjoying the nice view of Jatuncocha and Ichiccocha Lake, util Cashapampa. Here the transfer will be waiting for us and will have a last stop for lunch, after lunch we will aboard our private transfer to return Huaraz (around 3.5 hours driving)
